I got back from vacation on Saturday! yeah, I know, I was so very visible with the posting and commenting. Uh ... I was catching up on other stuff? (still am)

We had a great time just lazing around on the boat. Caught up on a few movies (not as many as I had originally thought), read a few books (ditto). I don't know where the time went.

Saw Mom and George when we docked in Florida, which was nice, since I don't think we've seen her for at least a year. We went to see Kennedy Space Center, which was pretty interesting. Great IMAX film (which actually required the funny glasses. I felt like a dork, but everyone else was wearing them too).

I am still pretty pale, but a nice rosy pale now. Except my calves, which are lobster red. I wanted them to look less fish-belly with skirts this summer, and went overboard.

And guess who was on my cruise? What Not to Wear! They evidently did a makeover where they all went on vacation with the victim, and did the shopping at the ports in the Bahamas, and did the reveal on the ship. No, I did not go (getting tickets involved getting up way too early for a vacation day). But if you see a What Not to Wear episode on a cruise, that's my ship.

Got an email today from the cruise line we booked for vacation, offering an upgrade to a penthouse cabin for a decent price ($150/ea). Hell, yeah!

So now our view is straight ahead of the ship, and we have a DVD player in the room. Yes, we will be catching up on our movies on a cruise ship. This is our idea of a great vacation.

Cannot. Wait. Until. April.

I really need to update this more often.

So, attended the ALA conference two weeks ago. It had its moments, but I don't think I'm going to something that big again for quite a while. Definitely not alone - walking through the exhibits with someone else would have been much more entertaining. I missed a lot of the talks I was interested in because they were too early in the morning - I was coming in from a suburb, long commute time. Shame about some of them.

I did manage to meet up with a few people from online - [livejournal.com profile] libwitch and a whole group of MetaFilterites. Very fun.

Then I went down to Newport News and visited family and friends. Finally got to meet my nephew (who is already a year old).

And then had an exhausting drive back up to NY, but which did not involve any accidents or tickets, so: good trip.

Separate update on this weekend coming next.

ALA

So, I've already heard from a couple people, but: who else on my friends list is going to ALA? My schedule is filling up, but I could probably meet up with a few more people.

Vacation!

I am off! I will not be reading or posting for a good week (not that the latter is that unusual).

So, tomorrow I wake up at an unearthly hour, for a good cause, to fly down to Florida for our anniversary cruise (can you believe 2 years already?). 7 days of no computers, mucho lounging and reading, lots of good food and sex. At least, those are the primary goals.

Everyone have a great week!

Note to self:

Next time you need to renew a passport, put a travel date much earlier than actual date.

The passport office says they put my new passport in the mail, and it should be here by the 4th. My plane leaves on the 8th. I would have liked it to get here MUCH earlier, especially since I shelled out for expedited service.

[bites nails]

It does not help that the tracking number they provided says only:
"U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on April 2, 2007 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date."

This has happened to me before. What it probably means is that it is in the mail, but they neglected to actually scan it in when they picked it up. Which means tracking will not tell me anything until I've received it, WHICH KIND OF LOSES THE FREAKING POINT OF TRACKING, NOW, DOESN'T IT?

I just need to think positive.

Since I had Veterans' Day off from work, I took vacation on Friday and made arrangements to go see my mom for a long weekend. It's the first time I'll see her since the engagement.

I wanted her to see my dress, but unfortunately it's been discontinued and wasn't in any stores.

So imagine how happy I was to come home Wednesday night and discover the dress had arrived! So I took it all the way to Florida with me just so mom could see it. Couldn't have been timed it better if I tried.

I hab a code.

I better not have it when I go to Florida on Thursday. That would just be wrong.

And why does all the best-working medicine taste so nasty? And not come in pill form, but require you to drink large amounts (in the past day, I have drunk an 8 oz cup of TheraFlu, and a couple 8 oz cups of Alka-Seltzer Cold. Nasty).

honeymoon!

We got an important part of the wedding plans nailed down: the honeymoon! We both wanted to take a full two-week vacation at least once in our lives, and Rich really wanted a cruise. So we booked this itinerary, on this ship, in a cabin like this (I know, so illuminating when you don't want to follow links. To summarize: western Caribbean/Central America, Celebrity Cruises Summit, deluxe room w/ veranda).

And now I'm repeatedly going to the site and drooling over the shore excursions. Which we definitely plan to actually do this time. I just keep changing my mind as to which ones I like.

I just need to make through today and tomorrow, because then I go on vacation! I'm going to visit my mom in Florida. Rich didn't want to ask for time off so soon after starting his job, so he's not going.

It's almost a shame it's been so nice around here, weather-wise. I'm not just dying to go someplace warm and sunny. But it will still be nice.
