We went to see WALL-E last night. So cute! How Pixar can make a garbage robot cute is beyond me, but they definitely did. And the numerous sci-fi movie references were amusing (particularly the 2001 music). I could have watched twice as much Wall-e by himself before the rest of the movie started.

And I love the "history of art" credit sequence. Why does no one seem to be mentioning it?

That's it. Evidently everyone in America thinks that everyone else in America is an idiot who cannot think or make judgments for themselves. They want to issue a R rating to movies that have people smoking. OK, movies that "appear to glamorize smoking".

I think most people in America the world know at this point that smoking is bad for you. Seeing someone smoking in a movie is not going to make them decide to take it up. And face it, movies set in certain eras need to have people smoking for verisimilitude, even the good guys!

And don't even get me started about how sex gets an R rating easier than violence. Um, wouldn't you rather your child see something sexual than something violent?

You know you're a New Yorker when:

The news that there is a movie filming near where you're working today does NOT cause you to think "I might see Nicole Kidman!" but rather, "Dammit, parking's going to be a bitch!"

Gakked from [ profile] bastardsnow Take this list and post it into your own LJ, and bold the movies you've seen. Add five more movies to the end of the list. Count how many movies you have seen. If you've seen more than 70 movies, you are a "movie whore". Post the score of how many movies you've seen in the subject line. Use a LJ-cut since you've got at least one LJ-friend who doesn't really want to see an ungodly number of movies snaking its way down the computer monitor. (optional, extra credit) Question your friend's taste in movies. Read more... )

OK, I can't find any articles online about this, but Friday we had an event at my branch, run by Verizon, to celebrate DSL coming to the neighborhood. They donated some books to the library, and had someone read to the kids.

James Earl Jones.

So I got to hear him reading The Lion King in person, which was pretty damn cool. I didn't exactly get introduced to him, but he did say Hi to me. Amusing, they asked the kids what was their favorite movie he's ever been in (or been the voice in), and not a one said the Lion King. Unanimously Star Wars. And these were little kids.

So, that's my cool news of the day.
