What is a problem is that studies have shown is that the more children are exposed to smoking in media, the more they are likely to smoke. Of ocurse, I think anytime anyone pulls out the "its all for the children" card, it needs to be looked at more closely. After all, PG does stand for "parental guidance suggested" so if your kid is that easily swayed go to the fucking movie with him to begin with.
It also irks me because it is taking smoking out of context. Smoking in a movie such as Mullohand Drive or Black Dahlia makes sense because EVERYONE smoked then. And it fits the characters. Yeah, get a bit piqued about Shrek smoking, or the 5th grader smoking on the screen, okay?
Just like violence. I normally dislike violence as a general rule, but I can watch the Sopranos without blinking because it *fits* and fits so well, it doesn't stand out. Therefore, I do not have an urge to go out and beat someone up after watching it.
