Hamlet seems to be just starting to realize that Prospero isn't coming home. He stayed at the vet's overnight several times, so Hamlet has been alone for short periods before, but I think he's starting to clue in. Yesterday was the first day he was home without one of us. He seems to be getting a lot more vocal, and clingier.
this is what happened with henry after sam died. henry, who was always silent, started talking and was clingier than ever before (which i thought was impossible!). it took about a month for him to chill out a bit but i still find him looking confused when he looks for sam in sam's old hiding places.
let me know if you need to talk, ok? i'm here and i get it.
I don't mind clingier - lord knows I was always trying to get them to stay on my lap. It's just so sad, that he doesn't understand.
I hoping my own landmines will run out soon. I went to pick up the laundry, and had to remove the cat carrier from the trunk. Wrenching. I still have to bring it in from the car. I don't mind so much seeing his favorite places, because those are good memories, but anything having to do with the vet, or his chemo ... almost the first thing I managed to do Saturday was throw away all the medicine and syringes - and that was the first thing Rich had been planning to do when he got home.
